19th Century Cast Iron Horse Head Hitching Post Cap

19th Century Cast Iron Horse Head Hitching Post Cap

This beautiful cast iron horse head dates to the late 1800s. It was used to tie up your horse while you went inside the general store or saloon. It still has its oringinal ring. The piece would be fastened to a post and set along the streets of the town. Appears to still have its original paint or at least the last paint job from when it was still being used. The paint has many decades of exposure. Measures 7-1/2″ high x 7″ deep.
